These double chocolate chunk tahini brownies are naturally sweetened, fudgy, and sooo delicious! This decadent dessert is made with tahini and peanut butter for a healthy source of fats, resulting in a moist and dense consistency that is simply irresistible!
The Secret Ingredient
I don’t know about you, but I like a brownie that is dense, moist, and fudgy. There’s nothing better than biting into a thick brownie oozing with dark chocolate chunks, and knowing that it’s healthier and more nutritious than your typical brownie!
I’ve experimented with many brownie recipes trying to get the right consistency and balance between sweetness and depth of flavor. I think you guys are gonna love this one!
Have I mentioned that this is a one bowl recipe?! If you’re not a fan of kitchen clean-up, this one’s for you.
The secret ingredient?!
Tahini.
Years ago I discovered tahini and have been adding it to everything from dressings to sauces, and now for baking! Trust me when I say that you can’t taste the bitterness of the tahini when you use it in baking. I’ve made brownies, cookies, cakes, and energy bites with this magic ingredient and the result is always delicious!
Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds and when used in baking serves as a healthy source of fats, giving these brownies their moist and melt-in-your-mouth consistency.
I added a little peanut butter for some extra creaminess and moisture but not enough to over-power the chocolate flavor of these brownies. If you don’t want to use peanut butter, you can always substitute almond butter or another nut butter of your choice! Just make sure whatever nut butter you use is a drippy consistency.
The Ingredients
When coming up with a healthier version of my favorite sweet treats, I look for natural sugar substitutes, unsaturated fats, zero artificial additives, and added nutrients for that extra boost of vitamins and minerals!
This recipe for double chocolate chunk tahini brownies is made healthier by the addition of peanut butter, tahini, and one egg as sources of healthy fats higher in unsaturated fat. In addition we’ve sweetened them with a combination of apple sauce, pure maple syrup, and a mashed ripe banana! This combination of natural sweeteners provides just enough sweetness but does not take over that rich chocolate flavor of the cacao and dark chocolate chunks.
Here’s what you need.
- Peanut Butter
- Tahini
- Egg (substitute flax egg if needed)
- Ripe Banana
- Unsweetened Apple Sauce
- Vanilla Extract
- Maple Syrup
- Cacao Powder
- Coconut Flour
- Baking Soda
- Sea Salt
- Dark Chocolate Chunks
A One-Bowl Wonder
This recipe comes together in just under 20 minutes! All you need is one bowl, the ingredients above, a baking dish, and parchment paper!
Add all of your wet ingredients to a medium sized bowl, whisking until smooth and well incorporated. Then we add the cacao powder, coconut flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing with a spoon until just combined.
Fold in your dark chocolate chunks and pour the batter into a parchment paper-lined 8×8 square baking dish, smoothing it over with a spatula. Add in extra dark chocolate chunks and sprinkle them evenly on top.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean!
Enjoy warm:) even better with a cold glass of milk and maybe your favorite book or movie!
